Handwritten love notes are as old as the written word but they are now having a moment, even as the digital world is taking over every other aspect of our lives. London is full of inspiration, from the Valentine's poetry popup at Claridges to an exhibition at the National Archives in Kew featuring 500 years of handwritten correspondence over love, longing, passion, sacrifice and heartache. And so much more.
We've become a little bit obsessed. So here's our take on the celebration of good old fashion handwritten notes: we embroider them! This is actually one of the most special forms of personalisation, turning a handwritten phrase or a doodle into a lasting embroidered gift.
How It Works
First, which is often the hardest part, choose a product you wish to personalise with your handwritten design. This can be almost anything from our product line or even something of your own. Our linen handkerchiefs, pillows, acrylic trays, candles and tote bags are all particularly suitable.
Choose the Upload Your Own option in our website's Design Your Monogram tool (see below). This will allow you to upload a photograph of the design taken with your phone.
Next, here in our studio your drawing will be carefully converted to an embroidery file to produce stitches that preserve the character of your original pen lines.
A quick tip for best results: dark pen on white paper gives the sharpest embroidery outcome. But if your note isn’t in perfect condition due to age or other issues, we can usually make the necessary adjustments to ensure it sews beautifully.
Finally, our embroiderers will sew out the design in the thread colour you’ve chosen. The sheen and texture of embroidery give handwriting an extra dimension which makes a big impact.
