Terry Towelling's British Heritage

Bath towels and monogramming go together like butter and jam: butter without the jam is delicious, but once you've had jam there's no going back to just plain butter.  Once you've monogrammed your towels, you won't be able to stop.  It's such a stylish feature in a bathroom, a room that often  isn't easy to dress with decorative features due to tiling, lack of space, moisture worries and other constraints.  Adding a monogram in a thread colour and font style which accents the details of the room makes otherwise generic towels look super chic.

Monogramming on towels can also be quite practical if a bathroom is shared with a partner, sibling or friend.  Monogrammed towels make gorgeous and useful gifts for weddings, new homeowners, students heading off to boarding school or university.  They are also a gateway drug for monogramming everything else in your house!

Beach and pool towels are also enhanced with an embroidered monogram.  It could be the family surname initial, the name or first initial of each family member, the name of the house or even a logo... this little detail makes a big impact.

We monogram a lot of towels:  both our own brand of bath, beach and sport towels, as well as ones we're brought for monogramming that have been purchased elsewhere.  And one of the most popular brands of towels we're brought is Christy towels.  So what fun it was to open up last week's issue of Country Life Magazine to find a feature on the family who developed the Terry towelling technology and established the Christy towel brand in the mid-1800s.  You can find it here.

It's a fascinating read about a fantastic British brand that is as innovative as ever.  Christy has been the official towel supplier to Wimbledon for 80 years. We embroider so many of these towels for clients who gift them to VIPs who they are entertaining at Wimbledon.  We are often asked to add their brand in embroidery, and/or embroider their guest's initials on the towel to make it a special souvenir of the day out.

This year Christy's Wimbledon towels were the biggest hit yet due to clips of Iga Swiatek, the women's champion, stuffing every towel she could get her hands on after a match in to her kit bag. So we were delighted to be asked by Christy to embroider a special towel just for Iga after she won which she pronounced to be the only towel that mattered, despite having 15 or so more at home, because it had her name embroidered on it.  Exactly.  That's the power of monogramming.
