Sitting Comfortably with Essie at Blue Marlin Ibiza London

Sitting Comfortably with Essie at Blue Marlin Ibiza London

How we love a brand event in a fab London location, and there's no hotter setting than the roof terrace at Blue Marlin Ibiza's London restaurant.  So we were delighted to work with the utterly wonderful and creative team at Savile Rose to create cushions for all the outdoor furniture in Essie's yellow brand colour.  Essie, if you didn't know already, is a global beauty brand specialising in nail care products.  And "Summer Solstice" yellow is the nail varnish colour of the summer.

The Savile Rose team gave us measurements for the existing cushions on the sofas and chairs on the terrace and we got to work sourcing a pretty yellow stripe fabric.  Yellow comes is a wide range of shades so we put forward several shades and various widths of stripes for them to consider.  They have a huge mood board and concept plan for every event which is put forward to their clients, like Essie, who in turn often have their own internal planning teams coordinating these big events.  By the time it filters down to us, the colours have been approved down to the Pantone reference.

Here's the fabric we ended up with:  a pretty cotton stripe in a shade of yellow called Ochre, a warm golden yellow.

Next, we set to work ordering the foam inserts for the cushions. We worked with an online business called GB Foam Direct who made it so easy to order the correct cushion inserts for each cushion.  Depending on its size and purpose (seat cushion versus seat back) a different weight is required... firm for thick seat cushions, soft for thinner seat backs.  And delivery was super quick, too quick in fact. I scheduled my delivery for two weeks out, when I knew the covers would be ready, and I got a call straight away from their customer service team to make sure I didn't make a mistake with the delivery date as they normally deliver next day.

Then we set to work making up the cushions.  Our expert seamstress Sandra took on the project enthusiastically, despite the fact that fashion and accessories are really her thing.  We had 55 meters of fabric sent to her workspace and away she went, working quicker than she probably would have liked, because of course the project had a short deadline.  Once completed two weeks later, the cushion covers were ready to be stuffed with the foam inserts.  This turned out to be a two-person job as the cushions were huge!  A few hand stitches were added by Paula to reinforce the seams...

Finally, we embroidered Essie's logo nice and big on velvet cushions sourced by Savile Rose.  Big branding at events like these is really important and needs to show up in all the photos.  Throw cushions are a great way to achieve the strong marketing message in a subtle, creative way.

The seating was ready for installation at Blue Marlin. And here's the result... the rooftop terrace was transformed from this blue theme:

While it's gorgeous, this is just not the right colours for the Essie event.  So have a look at how Savile Rose transformed the space:

This kind of work isn't what we normally do but it does show that we're up for almost any challenge our client's present.  Once you're our client, we will move mountains to help make your gift, or your event, picture perfect.
